GENERAL ADVICE
It is possible to play two or more videos at the same time.
This makes the audio unlistenable !
So make sure you 'pause' one video before 'playing' another one.

This comprises photos of each bell, one of the treble and two of each of the other bells. To accompany the photos, there is one 'dong' on each bell which sounds as the corresponding photos are displayed. Since bell fittings are derelict, and the clappers are hard to get at, the 'dongs' were produced by striking each bell with a key.

This comprises a video of the belfry. The derelict state of the fittings precludes ringing or chiming the bells. Additionally, it is hard to get at the clappers as the bells are close to the floor, so a 'dong' of each bell was obtained by striking it with a key; the 'dongs' were then put together to give some semblance of what rounds would sound like.

RINGERS - RECORD LENGTH PEAL

This peal was videoed throughout, in case there was doubt that we had succeeded. The video was recorded using a vhs video camcorder which was connected to a vhs video recorder; a three hour tape was used in long-play mode so that up to six hours could be recorded - this was sufficient since the peal lasted just over five hours.
Several year's later, the vhs recording was converted to a dvd using a digital freeview dvd recorder which had an auxilliary input.
Four short sections have been converted to wmv format and uploaded to YouTube and hence can be viewed here: the Start, a Middle section, the Finish, the Ringing Down.

For details of the peal, go to:
http://www.campanophile.co.uk/view.aspx?34902

Magor, 2000 12 24 1210, Record Length Peal Grandsire Doubles, ringers, the start, 180s
This section is the start. It includes the 2nd ringer practicing picking up a piece of Mars bar off the pew whilst ringing, a strategy he hoped to put to good use during the peal.

Magor, 2000-12-24 1248, Record Length Peal Grandsire Doubles, ringers, middle, 180s.wmv
This section is in the middle, about 30 minutes into the peal. The ringing has speeded up considerably since the start of the peal; this pace was to be maintained for the remainder of the peal. This section includes the 2nd ringer picking up a piece of Mars bar off the pew whilst ringing, but unfortunately dropping it on the floor !

Magor, 2000 12 24 1715, Record Length Peal Grandsire Doubles, ringers, the finish, 270s
This section is the finish, and it includes the umpires congratulating the ringers on their success. It also includes the 2nd ringer retrieving the piece of piece of Mars bar which he had dropped during the peal (4½ hours earlier).

Magor, 2000 12 24 1722, Record Length Peal Grandsire Doubles, ringers, ringing down, 276s
This section is the ringing down. Three of the ringers were umpires during the peal.

The belfry was very dark, so a torch had to be used.
The fittings are derelict, so the bells cannot be rung.
However, the bells can be chimed using the Ellacombe Apparatus on the first floor.
On this particular occassion, the ellacombe rope on the second bell was sticking and so could not be used to chime the bell, so to achieve rounds the second bell was chimed in the belfry by a ringer using his foot on the ellacombe clapper and the other five bells were chimed by a ringer at the Ellacombe Apparatus.
This particular video is a practice chime of the treble bell.

BELFRY

Wolvesnewton, 2008 03 23 1444, special outing, belfry, inspecting it & oiling bells, 98s of 780s
There is no lighting in the tower; hence the video is sometimes rather dark. Also, there is no staircase or fixed ladder up the tower. To gain access to the belfry, an extending ladder must first be used to get to the first floor, then the ladder must be hoisted up to the first floor to allow access to the belfry.

Wolvesnewton, 2008 03 23 1504, special outing, belfry, ringing up treble & tenor, 59s of 150s
To allow videoing of the bells being rung, the ringer who had oiled the bells had to descend the tower, which involved lowering the ladder to the ground floor, thus isolating the camera operator in the belfry. When the treble is ringing, frame movement is visible. The 2nd could not be rung up while the camera operator was in the belfry. Afterwards, to allow the camera operator to get down the tower, the ladder had again to be raised to the first floor.

RINGERS

Wolvesnewton, 2008 03 23 1513, special outing, ringers, ring up 2nd & rounds, 87s of 163s
Ringing up the second bell was followed by rounds. There was some difficulty in ringing the treble, as it was hard to 'keep it up'.
